Install a Spam Filter
If you are using a mail client on your local computer (i.e. Outlook or Outlook Express on Windows) then your first priority should be downloading and installing a spam filter. See below for a list of common spam filters.
Spam Filters Projects
Many of the spam filters available are based on the open source projects listed below.
SpamAssassin
SpamAssassin is a open source project that is part of the Apache group. It is widely used by ISP's and email service providers.
If you are not a techie you might prefer to view a list of comercial projects based on SpamAssassin.
Spam Bayes
Spam Bayes is an open source project aimed at developing statistical anti-spam filtering. It can be used as an Outlook plugin on Windows or as a proxy mail server on Windows. The filter can also be integrated with Unix mail clients.
Techies can get the software direct from the Spam Bayes homepage. Non techies might prefer to view a list of comercial projects based on Spam Bayes.
